Dimitrios Kofteros' Profile
Dimitrios Kofteros was born in Boro village, Lesvos island (Neochori, Plomari region) in 1951. In 1978, he first took an interest in music and the Greek dulcimer (called "the santouri"). His teacher was the noted Greek dulcimer virtuoso player, Tassos Diakoyiorghis. Since 1980 D. Kofteros has been a professional in the santouri.
From 1984 to 1999, he took part in the instrumental ensemble of the "Dora Stratou, Greek Folk Dances", as a regular member. He participated in a variety of cultural events over Greece and abroad, as well as in Musicologists' Congresses. He also performed in traditional music TV shows and broadcasts. He took part in various recording sessions in Greek Folk discography.
His theoretical and practical studies and research on the history and construction of the santouri, lead him to the writing of his book "Essay on the Greek Santouri". Furthermore, he has been professionally involved in the teaching of the instrument. Laterly he has constructed the new "TREBLE SANTOUR" also the "BASS" Santour.
